Network Security
Outsourcing technology and operation risks to a security partner is an attractive and cost
effective way for a business to address security management. We are staffed and resourced to
deal with such challenges on behalf of our customers giving them the best chance of beating
potential hackers, criminals and online burglars. It is crucial to view security as an ongoing
process and to have regular reviews of you security measures and policies.
As an essential part of your security precautions, we are able to provide key products and services including:
- Firewalls
- Packet Filter
- Application Gateway
- Circuit-level Gateway
- Proxy Server
- Remote Access Server (RAS) Security
- Security Audits
- SecureScan Perimeter
Firewalls
A firewall is a system that enforces an access control policy between two networks.
Firewalls are considered the first line of defence in protecting private information,
designed to prevent unauthorised access to or from a private network; firewalls can be
implemented in both hardware and software, or a combination of both. We can supply, manage
and implement a firewall fully tailored to meet your requirements.
There are several types of firewall techniques we can provide, which in practice may use two
or more in execution:
- Packet Filter: looks at each packet entering or leaving the network and accepts or rejects it based on user-defined rules. Packet filtering is fairly effective and transparent to users, but it is difficult to configure. In addition, it is susceptible to IP spoofing.
- Application Gateway: applies security mechanisms to specific applications, such as FTP and Telnet servers. This is very effective, but can impose performance degradation.
- Circuit-level Gateway: applies security mechanisms when a TCP or UDP connection is established. Once the connection has been made, packets can flow between the hosts without further checking.
- Proxy Server: intercepts all messages entering and leaving the network. The proxy server effectively hides the true network addresses.
Remote Access Server Security
A Remote Access Server (RAS) has now become one of the most important capabilities for any
business to access its network. Mobile users, users at remote sites, business partners and
a host of others need remote access to get their jobs done. The remote access server allows
users to gain access to files and print services on the LAN (local area network) from a remote
location. Once the user is authenticated they can access shared drives and printers as if they
were physically connected to the office LAN. We can supply, manage and implement RAS security
fully tailored to meet your requirements.
Some of the advantages of RAS security include:
- Out of hours access to your network
- Hot desking – working from any desk in the building
- Increased productivity
- Greater use of security
- Secure customer access to Intranet
- Remote IT network management
Security Auditing
SecureScan Perimeter is an on-demand Internet security assessment service that provides a
detailed report of how vulnerable an organisations Internet connections are. Based on this
we can put together reports, which provide a constructive means of starting or enhancing an
Internet security policy. SercureScan contributes to the dialogue by providing complete and
clear documentation that everyone can understand.
SecureScan is a service not a product; delivering much more than competitors port scans. After
identifying all open ports, we can with the help of SecureScan verify reported services and
protocols and then intelligently evaluate the results to create a vulnerability test tuned to
the specific system being tested.
